Columbus man collects $300,000 lottery win

COLUMBUS, GA  (WTVM) –  A Columbus man has won a "Lotta Bucks." Luther Maxwell, 74, played the Georgia Lottery game Lotta Bucks and won $300,000.

He claimed the prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery's Columbus district office.

Shell Food Mart #0208, located at 4500 River Road in Columbus, sold the lucky top prize ticket.

Lotta Bucks is a new instant game loaded with cash prizes up to $300,000. Tickets went on sale March 8.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.3 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
