COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A jury has been selected in the Columbus murder trial for Cynthia Sanders.

Sanders is accused of stabbing her daughter's ex-boyfriend, 33-year-old Calvin Jones, to death inside an East Columbus home last October.

She allegedly admitted to the crime but has plead not guilty, saying she did it in self defense.

Jurors were sworn in Tuesday morning and motions hearing will be held Tuesday afternoon.

Opening statements will start Wednesday morning at 9 AM on the 7th floor of the Columbus Government Center downtown before Chief Muscogee County Superior Court Judge John Allen.

During Sanders' preliminary hearing, witnesses testified Calvin Jones hit her in the head with a lamp during a fight inside a house on School House Drive.

The witnesses said Jones was drunk and high and had been fighting with Sanders and her daughter, his ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Smith and that's when Sanders says she got a knife to protect herself. Jones was stabbed once during the altercation and his body was found in the front doorway when officers arrived.

Sanders is charged with murder, felony murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. She is out on bond and is reporting to court on her own accord, wearing plain clothes.
