Auburn student dies while vacationing in Key West, FL

KEY WEST, FL  (WTVM) – Auburn University student Mary Beth Goodner, 22, died early Thursday morning in Key West, Florida. A couple found the woman not breathing, slumped over and positioned between the spiral stairwell and a concrete wall.

Alyson Cream, public affairs officer for the Key West Police Department, says the call came into dispatch around 3:30 a.m.

Although KWPD is still investigating, it appears it was an accidental death.

Reports indicate Goodner fell down the stairwell at the Pelican Landing Resort in Key West.

She was pronounced dead at the Florida Keys Medical Center.

According to the report released by the police department, it is not known if Goodner was intoxicated at the time of her fall.

Goodner, from Opelika, Alabama, was in Key West with a group of Auburn students for spring break.

She was a senior at Auburn, studying early childhood education.
