Columbus Police say man poured bleach on his girlfriend's face and eyes

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus man is in jail after he poured bleach on his girlfriend's face and eyes.  News Leader Nine was the only crew there when Columbus police arrested Sergio Jimenez, 31, at his south Columbus house.

It is a place where everyone expects to be safe: home. But, for one Columbus woman and her child that is not the case.  Columbus Police told News Leader Nine Sergio Jimenez allegedly came home to his girlfriend intoxicated and struck her in the head with his elbow.

Investigators explained the victim then fell to the ground hitting her head again.  After trying to walk, the victim told police she collapsed, dizzy from the blows.

She then said that was when she realized Jimenez was standing over her, pouring bleach on her face and eyes.  The victim tried to call the police and escape, but investigators said Jimenez stopped her saying he was going to kill her.  The suspect said that is when she grabbed her child and ran to a neighbor's for help.  The neighbor called 911 as Jimenez fled the scene.

The girlfriend was not home when Jimenez was arrested.

Neighbors told News Leader Nine the couple just moved into the neighborhood about a month ago.  Jimenez is facing charges of aggravated assault and terrorist threats.
