Sergeant Donald Bush with the Columbus Police Department says that people should be extra careful and alert at all times.

"Be aware of your surroundings lock your doors, lock your doors when you're driving in the streets of Columbus, think about your surroundings," Sergeant Bush said.

Bush says a common problem especially in local parks is joggers not paying attention to what is going on around them.

"Sometimes we put on those ear phones while we're jogging down the road, you know go with a buddy," Sergeant Bush said.

During the spring and summer months' traveling becomes more popular. Police say that its best to make sure that you home is secured properly before you leave Sergeant Bush says the key is to make it seem as if you never left to on vacation at all.

"Stop the mail maybe need to stop the paper, have the neighborhood watch captain or coordinator know that you are gone so that somebody can keep a watch on your property," Sergeant Bush said.

Bush says that CPD will be patrolling the streets of Columbus as usual and that people should not be reluctant to enjoy the spring weather as long as they tread with caution.

"It's a good idea to enjoy this weather but also think about being safe," Sergeant Bush said.
