BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a federal grand jury has indicted a mother and daughter from Shelby County who are accused of conspiring in a 2009 murder-for-hire plot targeting the daughter's ex-husband.
U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and FBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick Maley announced the indictment Wednesday.
Authorities say 43-year-old Kimberly Dawn McGuffie of Calera and 63-year-old Barbara Louise Patterson of Columbiana are charged with conspiracy to commit murder for hire.
The indictment states that McGuffie promised to pay a man $1,000 to kill her former spouse.
It was not known late Wednesday whether either defendant has an attorney in the federal case.
