Sheriff: Suspect wanted in high-speed chase

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - The Harris County Sheriff's Department is now searching for Freddrick Smith, 19, in connection to Tuesday morning's high speed chase.

It is unclear if Smith was the driver or the passenger inside the vehicle.  Officials said Smith is believed to be one of two men who fled the scene.

The chase started just after midnight as an officer noticed a dark colored Chevy Trailblazer speeding on I-185 near Hopewell Church Road exit.

The pursuit ensued after the driver refused to stop. He led three law enforcement agencies on a chase going 110 mph into Columbus.

The SUV exited Airport Thruway westbound to Veterans Parkway before he slammed into a ditch on 55th Street.

Three adult males and a 13-year-old teenager were inside the vehicle. They fled on foot. The driver and one occupant got away.  Another man and the teen were caught. She was released to her mother from the Harris County Jail.

Police found stolen merchandise including a flat screen TV, laptops, clothing and linen from Wal-mart inside the vehicle. Trooper George Cotton said, the suspect told them the items came from an Atlanta-area store.

The suspects are believed to have been running a theft ring.

If you have any information on Smith's whereabouts call (706) 628-4211.
