COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - When students prepare to make the transition from high school to college, there may be a lot of concerns that come along with that, especially if that student has special needs.
The Muscogee County School District, Columbus State University, Columbus Technical College and Goodwill Industries all hosted a transition fair for students with disabilities. 42 vendors presented their services for families looking to help their children pursue college after graduation.
MCSD Transition Coordinator Paula Dukes told News Leader Nine, "Throughout this past year we have discovered there is a disconnect between families who need services and those who provide services. We felt very strongly that in order for us to help our students be successful when they leave high school, we need to make sure those two parties connect and have an opportunity to increase those post-secondary outcomes."
This is the first time for the transition fair to be held, and with the great success Thursday, organizers hope to make it an annual event.
