Judge holds hearing on Alabama gambling wiretaps

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge is holding another hearing on a request by defense attorneys to block the use of wiretaps in Alabama's gambling corruption trial.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Wallace Capel Jr. will hear more arguments Friday from defense attorneys who say the FBI didn't follow the rules when tapping the phones of indicted casino owners Ronnie Gilley and Milton McGregor and when turning over documents involving those wiretaps. Prosecutors say some mistakes were made, but they were not significant enough to block use of the wiretaps.

The casino owners and eight others are scheduled for trial June 6 on charges accusing them of buying and selling votes on pro-gambling legislation.
