PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - The Phenix City council is working to improve their relationship with the Phenix City School Board and Tuesday they took a step in a new direction.

Council elected two new members to the school board, Brad Baker and Eddie Lowe. Baker will replace Mike Benefield, who requested council not renew his term. Eddie Lowe, the former president of the Phenix City School Board, will be taking over current president Frankie Horace's position.

"You will start to see a relationship between the School Board itself and the city council, much like it has been over most of the 25 years I have been involved with the school board as part of the city," explained Phenix City Mayor Sonny Coulter.

Baker and Lowe will start their term in June, at that point a new president will be voted upon and elected by the school board members.
