Former Russell Co. deputies' trial set for Aug. 22 in Dothan, Ala.

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge has granted a request by former Russell County Sheriff's deputies to delay their trial until August.

The trial for former deputies Kirby Dollar and Tim Watford will begin Aug. 22 in Dothan. They're charged with beating a handcuffed man.

Dollar and Watford are charged with violating Patrick C. Harrington's civil rights last November. The two, who have pleaded not guilty, were indicted March 23.

The two, along with former Phenix City police officer Rachel Hauser, former Russell County Sheriff Tommy Boswell and the city of Phenix City, are defendants in a civil suit filed by Harrington in December alleging civil rights violations and emotional distress.

The three officers were suspended without pay before resigning on Dec. 2, 2010.
