COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus woman is recovering from severe burns after her apartment caught fire.

The fire broke out at a complex on Illges Road Wednesday night just before 9 PM.

Columbus Fire and EMS officials say a 59-year-old woman was alone in her apartment when the blaze started.

When firefighters arrived, she was passed out from her injuries inside the front door and they burst in to get her.

She has been airlifted to the Burn Center in Augusta with second and third degree burns to 40-50% of her body.

The fire left $25,000 in damages.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in less than 15 minutes.

The fire is not suspicious. It has been ruled an accident.
