6 killed as severe storms hit Arkansas

BALD KNOB, Ark. (AP) - A 6-year-old boy is dead after a huge tree fell on his home during overnight storms in central Arkansas.

Bald Knob Police Chief Tim Sanford says the tree fell onto the home at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, probably pushed over by straight-line winds.

Sanford says the tree was between 6 and 8 feet in diameter.

He says rescuers were able to get the boy's parents and a 2-year-old sibling out of the crushed house, but that it took more than two hours to get a truck big enough to lift the tree from the boy's bedroom.

Sanford says the child, Devon Adams, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other family members had cuts and bruises but Sanford says they didn't appear to have significant injuries.
