Vandals use painted rocks to damage Georgia mosque

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say someone has smashed the windows and doors of a mosque north of Atlanta twice in the past month.

Officials say the vandals used painted rocks with threatening messages to damage the Islamic Center of Cartersville, about 40 miles northwest of Atlanta.

Mosque member Amjad Taufique told WSB-TV that 1 of the rocks was painted with the words "Muslim murderers."

Taufique said another rock was painted with a Star of David.

Taufique said the Islamic center has been open about two years with no problems until now.

WSB reported that Cartersville police are investigating, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is also looking into the vandalism.
