Local soldier killed in Afghanistan

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The U.S. Department of Defense announced the death of a soldier from Columbus.

Staff Sgt. Cynthia R. Taylor, 39, of Columbus was one of four soldiers killed in a suicide attack  while on duty in Nangarhar province, in Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Taylor was assigned to the 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, and 101st Airborne Division Fort Campbell, Ky.

She joined the Army in November 2003.

Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony to honor fallen Screaming Eagles. The next ceremony will be held May 11 at 4 p.m. on post. A memorial service will be held for the soldiers in Afghanistan.
