COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A Lee County jury has reached a verdict in a deadly shooting that all started over a beer.

A Lee County jury has found 21-year old Auntavious Curry guilty of murder in the shooting death of his mother in-law's boyfriend.

Curry did take the stand Tuesday in his own defense and even started to cry as he testified he thought the victim in the case, Theodore Reese, was trying to kill him when he pulled the trigger.

Testimony indicates on April 12th of last year, the two men were at an Auburn home, about to play dice when the victim took one of the defendant's beer and would not give it back.

That sparked a deadly argument that ended with the two men wrestling for control of a gun.

The gun was fired several times during the fight.

Curry was wounded in the wrist and testified when he got control over the gun he fired it at the victim, who died from that wound on his kitchen floor.

He is currently serving time in prison after he was convicted in a separate case for shooting into an occupied dwelling.

He will be sentenced for this murder conviction on June 1st.
