PHENIX CITY, AL (WXTX) -  It may be yard sale weather, but if you live in Phenix City and plan on holding several this year, you may be facing fines.

City council unanimously passed the amendment that prohibits residents from holding more than two yard sales in a single year. Also, those yard sales can't last for more than three consecutive days.

Phenix City Mayor Sonny Coulter said, "The purpose of having to amend the yard sale was the fact that we have some residents who are taking advantage of yard sales and to some extent were running businesses out of their homes under the guise of having a yard sale."

If you do not obtain a permit and you disobey the new rules set in place, you could pay anywhere from $50 to $500 in fines.
