COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A dispute between neighbors sends one man to the emergency room and the other to jail.

Columbus Police reports show the 45 year old victim was complaining about his neighbor to a group of friends. He told them he had hung his clothes out to dry on the line and his neighbor, 55 year old Willie Evans Jr., turned on his sprinklers, causing all of his clothes to get wet. Evans overheard the conversation and got into a verbal argument with the upset neighbor. During this dispute, Evans picked up a shovel and threatened to hit his neighbor with it.

Reports show Willie Evans Jr. ended up swinging at the victim, at which time the man lost his footing and fell onto a nearby wheelbarrow. When the victim stood up he discovered Evans had hit in the head with the shovel and he was bleeding. The victim also suffered a cut on his wrist from falling on the wheelbarrow.

Several bystanders back up this story, saying they saw Evans hit the man in the head with the shovel.

The victim was taken to the Columbus Medical center where he was treated for his injuries. Police say he was in good condition after that.

Willie Evans Jr. was arrested on the scene and charged with aggravated assault. He is being held in the Muscogee County Jail and will appear in Recorder's Court on Monday.
