State cuts funding for music, sports halls of fame

MACON, Ga. (AP) - The futures of 2 Georgia halls of fame are up in the air after the state has cut their funding.

The state has been the main supporter of both the Georgia music and sports halls of fame in Macon, but decided to end their support this year as lawmakers could no longer justify keeping the facilities afloat amid the down economy. Local leaders have made financial pledges to keep the doors open without state assistance, but Georgia has been footing the bills despite poor attendance over the two decades since they opened.

Georgia Music Hall of Fame Director Lisa Love, who has headed the facility since 2006, is stepping down from her post and says she has developed contingency plans to divide the hall's collection among three state colleges.
