City nominates James Worsley for Parks and Rec position

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus has nominated a person to take over a role recently vacated for legal reasons.

Dr. James Worsley is currently the Regional Parks and Recreation Manager for Mecklenburg County in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he directs and oversees 54 parks and properties. 

Dr. Worsley has certifications in playground and safety inspections and therapeutic recreation and is a licensed Recreational Therapist. 

"Dr. Worsley is the right person at the right time to regain the pride and trust of the citizens and the employees of our Parks and Recreation Department", said city manager Isaiah Hugley.

Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson,  met with the selection committee, reviewed applications and participated in the final round of candidate interviews. 

"We had a short list of extraordinary candidates and Dr. Worsley stood out among that accomplished crowd, " said Mayor Tomlinson.

In addition, Dr. Worsley holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC), where he majored in Parks, Recreation and Tourism with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. He has a Master in Science from UNC with a major in Recreation Management. He has a Doctorate of Philosophy from North Carolina A&T State University, where he majored in Leadership Studies.

City manager Isaiah Hugley will submit his name to the city council for approval on May 10.
