Storms leave 78,000 in the dark across Georgia

By Roslyn Giles

The twisters that tore through Georgia overnight left 78,000 people without power.  Georgia Power says the outages are statewide, but the hardest hit area is north and central Georgia in Rome. Half of the damage is the northwest part of the state.

Columbus faired the storm unscathed with no reported power outages, just a few downed trees. Several outlining areas weren't as fortunate.  As many as 9000 customers are waking up in the dark in Pine Mountain, Gay, Woodbury, Pomona and Greenville.

Georgia Power has no idea when residents can expect to have their power restored due to the severity of the situation.
