Coming Up on Newsleader 9 Morning

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Here are some of the stories we're following this morning.

We'll have the latest on the tornado outbreak that wreaked havoc across the Southeast. So far, 60 people have been reported dead in Alabama, the hardest hit area is Tuscaloosa. Classes have been cancelled today at the University of Alabama. Officials have declared a state of emergency. Governor Robert Bentley is scheduled for a press conference at 6:00 a.m. ET/ 5:00 a.m. CST.

Schools in Meriwether County, Georgia are closed this morning after severe weather hit that area overnight. An entire hotel was evacuated, a trailer park demolished and a roof was ripped off Mountain View Elementary.

In other news today, commercials promoting sugary breakfast cereals could be put on a strict diet under new government guidelines set to be released today. Under the new guidelines obtained by The Associated Press, companies would be urged to only market foods to children ages 2 through 17 if they are low in fats, sugars and sodium and contain specified healthy ingredients.
