National Guard troops search for missing in AL

PLEASANT GROVE, AL (AP) - In Alabama, Gov. Robert Bentley says 2,000 National Guard troops have been activated and are helping to search devastated areas for people still missing.

At least 162 people are reported dead in the state and as many as a million people are without power.

The governor says the National Weather Service and forecasters did a good job of alerting people, but he says there's only so much that can be done to deal with powerful tornadoes a mile wide.

President Barack Obama says he has spoken with Bentley and approved his request for emergency federal assistance.
