Auburn's Chizik, players help tornado victims

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn football coach Gene Chizik was part of athletic department groups that traveled to two tornado-ravaged communities in Alabama.

Chizik, athletic director Jay Jacobs and about 15 football players were among those traveling in buses to Pleasant Grove and Cullman on Friday. About 70 members of the athletic department participated.

Chizik and his group delivered clothes and more than 500 cases of water and sports drinks to a shelter in Pleasant Grove. They helped clear debris and visited families.

Twenty deaths have been reported in Pleasant Grove's Jefferson County, and two in Cullman County.

Chizik was in New York City Thursday night for the NFL draft, where quarterback Cam Newton was the No. 1 overall pick and defensive tackle Nick Fairley was 13th.
