2 sentenced in Aflac bilking case

COLUMBUS, GA (AP) - Two people linked by federal authorities to bilking Aflac out of hundreds of thousands of dollars have been sentenced.

U.S. District Court Judge Clay Land sentenced Benita Denys Cash on Tuesday to six months in prison and ordered her to pay the insurance company $14,507.50 in restitution.

Land sentenced Yvette B. Broussard to three years' probation and $67,105 in restitution.

Both pleaded guilty to one count each of health care fraud in November.

Cash and Broussard's indictments link them to other defendants in the case.

Danielle Mahone and Travis Washington's indictments say Mahone worked in Aflac's claims department and was familiar with what it took to make insurance claims, and Washington asked her for advice about making false claims.
