RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WXTX) - An attempted murder suspect out of Russell County has been captured in neighboring Lee County after several days on the run.
Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor says 33-year-old Jimmy Frazier shot 41-year-old Willie Moffett three times Saturday night at a home off of Highway 80.
Frazier was originally on the run with his girlfriend and their four year old daughter. Sheriff Taylor says he dropped them off at a relative's house after the shooting and they are safe.
Initially, authorities believed Frazier was headed to the Birmingham area because his girlfriend has family there. But Wednesday, they received information that he would be in Opelika. With the help of the US Marshal's and Opelika Police Department, investigators with the Russell County Sheriff's Office arrested Frazier.
The victim, Willie Moffett, is in a medically induced coma at the Medical Center and on a ventilator, according to the sheriff. He was shot twice in the upper body and once in the head Saturday night while attending a family gathering.
The owner of the home where the shooting happened says Moffett called Frazier a "sissy" and that's what sparked the gun fire. The sheriff says both men grabbed guns from their cars and that they have had an ongoing argument with one another.
