New Partnership Between Auburn University and Goodwill

From Goodwill of Southern Rivers

AUBURN, AL  - Check out for Charity donation drive has been hosted by Auburn University for more than a decade to encourage students to "go green" by donating gently used clothing and household items to local charities for resale.

This is the first year that Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, (GWISR) headquarter in Columbus, Georgia and Auburn University partnered for this exciting event by assisting thousands of students as they check-out for their summer break.

Along with other local charities, GWISR set up 8 tents around the campus.  Since launching the event on April 25th, GWISR has received donations from more than 60 students. The Donated items are taken to the Auburn-Opelika Goodwill Retail store on Pepperell Parkway for resale and diverted from landfills because of this new partnership.

Revenue from the sale of these goods at the Auburn-Opelika Goodwill Retail Store on Pepperell Parkway will help put people to work, including people with disabilities, those who lack education or job experience, and others facing challenges to finding employment.

"We are excited about being a partner for this first time with Auburn University's Check-out for Charity Donation Drive and their commitment to doing the right thing for our community," commented Jane P. Nichols, Goodwill Industries, President & CEO.

Goodwill has donation tents set up at the following Resident Halls:

The Village - Magnolia, Aubie and Plainsman
The Quads - Broun
The Hills - Dunn
The CDV - Courtyard
