COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Defense attorneys and prosecutors are seeking to postpone the murder trial of a 37-year-old Phenix City, Ala. man charged with fatally shooting his wife.
Defense attorney Joel Collins and District Attorney Ken Davis said in a joint motion that Adrian Ezell should undergo a psychiatric examination before the trial begins.
Ezell has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease in the June shooting of his wife, 32-year-old Felisha Renay Ezell.
The judge has yet to rule on the motion. The trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Authorities say Ezell shot his wife in the back with a pistol and then called police. They say he confessed to the shooting after investigators arrived.
