COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - Of the 700 Columbus State University students who graduated Monday night, and there are a few who stand out among the crowd.

After 12 years of home-schooling, Danielle Thompson began her college career at Columbus State University. In these last four years she has certainly kept herself busy.

"I've made three films while I've been in college: one documentary about the civil rights movement and two comedies. One of them was called "Pomp and Circumstance" and I just finished last week and had the premier this past Friday," explained Danielle.

Danielle also spent a year abroad, studying in Oxford, England, "It was a challenging experience because the academic system is very rigorous and different from what I'm used to here in the states. I think it strengthened me for challenges in grad school and in the future."

She says her time at Oxford also helped her in her next step after college, "I found out there was a film program at Oxford and of course I applied and was thrilled that I was accepted and that's where I'm planning to go in the fall."

All her time working on films and studying literature has prepared Danielle for her dream, "Ultimately, what all these years of school are leading up to is... I want to work professionally writing and directing Christian films. And that's what I hope to do after school."

Danielle now has to walk across the stage and get her diploma before starting the next scene in her life.

She added, "I'm excited I've come to this milestone and I'm looking back on all the great memories and everything that's been a part of getting to this point. I'm thankful for the people who have helped me, my parents and the people who played such a big part in getting me there."

After a year at Oxford, Danielle plans on attending Regent University in Virginia where she will continue to study film.
