COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Nearly two weeks after deadly storms ravaged parts of Alabama and Georgia, residents in hard hit communities continue to struggle to heal and recover. On the flip side, the volunteer effort in many of those cities has been overwhelming. I got to witness that first hand on a trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Several local residents and businesses got together and collected more than 10,000 pounds of donations to send to Tuscaloosa. Our cameras followed those donations from Columbus to Tuscaloosa. We took them to the Leland Aid Center in one of the hardest hit areas called Alberta City. Several volunteers at the site, as well as members of the National Guard, worked to unload and stage the donations immediately. We were able to capture some amazing moments of charity and gratitude while we were there.
