Missing Russell Co. man found in Florida

RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) – Officials say a Russell County man suffering from Alzheimer's has been located alive and well in Florida.

Robert Smith, 70, who is in the first stage of Alzheimer's, was last seen driving his 1997 GMC Sierra pick-up truck towards Barbour County on Saturday May 14th.

Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor issued a plea to the public on Monday for help locating the elderly man who may not remember his identity or where he was from.

On Friday, Sheriff Taylor announced that Smith has been located in Chattahoochee, FL which is in Gadsen County, FL, about three hours from away on May 15, 2011.  Due to his illness, the Chattahoochee Police Department was unable to determine his identity until May 20th.  He is safe and his family is on the way to pick him up.
