COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Just before the crack of dawn Wednesday, more than 350 people showed up in the parking lot of the new Midland Chick-fil-A located at Flat Rock Road and Beaver Run Road.

Why the gathering? In case you have not heard, as a part of its grand opening celebration, Chick-fil-A gave the first 100 campers 52 free meals Thursday morning.

Some set up camp outside the restaurant for a full 24 hours. The first 100 were chosen by lottery system.

In addition, a LaGrange resident received the chain's top scholarship. The Cathy Family, including Dan T. Cathy, president and COO presented the award to Ben Ken, now an Auburn student.  Also at the grand opening was Chick-Fil-A's 90-year-old founder, Samuel Truett Cathy.
