Blue Devils Advance to State Semifinals

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Blue Devils exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to beat West Laurens 9-3 on Wednesday in the deciding Game 3 of their GHSA Class AAA quarterfinal series. With the victory, the Blue Devils advance to the state semifinals.

That seven-run inning included two run doubles by Jordan Weems and Cody Walker. Walker also had an RBI single in the third inning.

Pierce Ressmeyer got the Blue Devils on the board in the second inning with a solo homer.

J.T. Phillips pitched two innings and Will Solomon the final five, as the No. 6 Blue Devils (26-8) set up a state semifinal showdown with No. 2 Thomson (28-2).

It was the second series in a row that went the distance. Like their second round series with Ringgold, the Blue Devils lost the opener, then came back to win the final two games to advance.

The semifinals will begin with a doubleheader on Monday at Randy Jordan Field, with a third game if needed on Tuesday.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 8 Woodward Academy (28-3) is at No. 1 Spalding (29-3). The state finals are scheduled to begin Saturday, May 28.
