COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The New Chick-fil-a that opened Thursday morning in Midland looks a little lonely.  40 undeveloped acres surround it.

The Woodruff Company owns the land.  Representative Lucy Jones said, "We have owned this property since the 60's. It has been rezoned and ready to go. Now the timing is just right for North Columbus to have a really nice upscale development."

Jones says the Woodruff Company is going to be picky when it comes to what neighbors Chick-fil-a will have in the future because it will also be in the front yard of the new Lakeside Village Apartments that should be ready in the fall.

"It will be a 30 Million dollar asset when they are complete.  We will begin construction on those this summer."

There have been rumors about what else will fill up the 14 acre commercial property.   Some are talking about a Starbucks Coffee or a Super Target.

Jones says although it would be nice, a Super Target could not fit on the property.

She told News Leader Nine, "It would be a great spot for a Starbucks. We do have an ice cream user that is very interested. We have several other sandwich shops that are very interested."

She said they also expect to have a few sit down restaurants and are looking to put in a few strip centers for small businesses.

"Obviously we think we need another convenience store. The one we sold across the street pumps more gallons of gas than any other convenience store in town," explained Jones.
