PINE MOUNTAIN, GA (WTVM) -  A number of celebrities and prominent figures met at Callaway Gardens Thursday night for the 11th annual Jimmy Rane Charity Golf Tournament weekend.

The charity gives college scholarships to what Rane calls "kids in the middle" - students who need a little economic boost to get to college.

Celebrities and coaches from Nick Saban and Gene Chizik to actors Dean Smith and 94-year old academy award winner Ernest Borgnine showed up.

"There are so many worthy children in the middle that sort of get overlooked and forgotten and that's our job and we have a lot of people who have fun together," said Jimmy Rane, Founder.

"The joy of living, that's what counts and that's what these people are doing today for those young people that are being honored tonight. And they're giving them a chance to become somebody and do something,"said Ernest Borgnine, Academy Award Winner.

Over the past 11 years, 81 scholarships have been given and Rane says they have raised between $5.5 and $6 million to send students to college.
