Court-martial resumes for Ga. soldier facing death

FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) - A Fort Stewart sergeant charged with killing his squad leader and a fellow U.S. soldier in Iraq remains on trial more than a month after his court-martial began.

Defense attorneys for Sgt. Joseph Bozicevich are scheduled to resume calling witnesses Monday after legal motions by attorneys kept the jury out of the courtroom most of last week.

Bozicevich of Minneapolis could face the death penalty if a military jury convicts him of premeditated murder in the 2008 shootings of Staff Sgt. Darris Dawson of Pensacola, Fla. and Sgt.

Wesley Durbin of Dallas at a patrol base in Iraq.

Prosecutors say Bozicevich opened fire after the soldiers critiqued him for poor performance. But the accused soldier says he killed both men in self-defense after they drew their guns on him.
