WAVERLY HALL, GA (WTVM) - Some of the top chefs from Atlanta, including the chef for Georgia's Governor, spent the day in Harris County learning all about organic vegetable production.
One of the only certified organic farms in the area, Georgia's Finest Organic Farm, is a labor of love for Ira Meyers and Chris French. "The reason organics has been in my mind my whole life is as my dad was dying of cancer he told me 'son, it was the fumigation and the methyl bromide,'" explained French.
The farm sits on 30 acres in Waverly Hall. It is now partnering with Georgia's finest chefs through Fresh Point.
Fresh Point is the nation's largest fresh produce distributor. They helped to bring Atlanta's premier chefs to tour the farm and see where the food they will soon serve is coming from.
One of the guests was Governor Nathan Deal's executive chef, Holly Chute. Deal and his guests will soon be eating fresh veggies from the valley. Chute says when the Governor promotes the state, it helps to serve the guests local food.
