COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - School is out for the summer. What's a bored kid supposed to do? We asked James Suggs. He has three school-aged children.

"All kids love water, I loved it when I was a kid and I know my kids love it," Suggs said.

Starting Wednesday, May 25 four pools will open across Columbus. Suggs says with the hot weather around the Chattahoochee valley lately, area pools don't seem like a bad idea.

"I think it's great for the kids because I believe were going to have a really hot summer this year I know that for a fact just the way it started out," Suggs said.

Deputy City Manager Lisa Goodwin says the Parks and Recreation department is fully staffed and ready for the busy summer season. She encourages families to come out to the pools and enjoy themselves.

"Kids like the water, they like going to the beaches and we don't have beaches in Columbus,  so the next best thing is Parks and Rec," Goodwin said.

New this season is the upgraded Double Church's Pool. It opened its doors just two weeks before the end of the swimming season last year and will have its first full season starting tomorrow.

According to Goodwin pools will open from noon until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday thru Friday and will open eleven am until 7:30 p.m. on the weekends.

"We typically just have them open for a short time, but we don't want to that we want to make sure we have them open for as long as possible for kids to enjoy," Goodwin said.

The city assures the public that all pool life guards are certified.
