Ross, Armstrong leaving Auburn basketball team

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn coach Tony Barbee announced on Wednesday that leading scorer and rebounder Earnest Ross is leaving the program.

Barbee said that he had "mutually agreed" with Ross and backup center Ty Armstrong "to go in a different direction both academically and athletically."

Ross averaged 13.1 points and 6.6 rebounds last season while ranking second on the team in both assists and steals.

Armstrong saw action in 12 games after undergoing offseason knee surgery.

The departures put Auburn back at the 13-player scholarship limit.

The Tigers also added transfer guards Varez Ward from Texas and Noel Johnson from Clemson after they sat out last season.
