COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Two Columbus men are recovering from gunshot after two separate shootings downtown.

The first happened around 8:30 Thursday night. Marquise Shivers, 22, says he was walking in the area of 3rd Avenue and 4th Street when a four door beige car passed by and someone leaned out and shot at him.

Shivers was hit in the lower right buttock. He ran to the Booker T. Washington Apartments where an ambulance was called. He was taken to the Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.

Police say Shivers did not get a good look at the gunman. Investigators say wounds of this nature are no laughing matter- in other cases, bullets have traveled into victims' abdomens, severely damaging their vital organs.

The second shooting happened a block away from the first, at 10:30 Thursday night. Matthew Rivers, 29, says he was sitting in his car outside of a Laundromat on  5th Street when two men came up and started shooting at him.

Rivers was hit in the left side of his chest but managed to drive himself to his East Columbus home where someone got him into another car and drove him to the Medical Center.

Rivers is in the Intensive Care Unit but investigators say his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Lieutenant Lynn Joiner of the Robbery/Assault/Homicide Division of the Columbus Police Department says it is not yet known if the two shootings are related. No arrests have been made.

If you have any information on the crimes, please call Columbus Police.
