Eric Skinner Named to Southeast Region Gold Glove Team

MOJNT OLIVE, N.C. - Senior Eric Skinner was named the first team shortstop on the Southeast Region Gold Glove team for the 2011 season. The ABCA award is given to the best fielding players at each position and is voted on by the region head coaches and sponsored by Rawlings.

Skinner led all shortstops in the Southeast region with a .966 fielding percentage making only 8 errors in 233 chances.

Skinner is now eligible to be the NCAA Division II Gold Glove shortstop. He will compete against the seven other region winners at his position. The announcement of the national Gold Glove team will be made this weekend at the Division II College World Series in Cary, NC.

The recipient of the National team receives a Gold Glove trophy similar to the Major League award also sponsored by Rawlings.

Columbus State University has three past winners of the national Gold Glove award. Kurt McKee and David Brown were the shortstop and second base winners in 2007 and Korey Noles was the best fielding pitcher in 2008.
