Federal Do Not Call Registry

Armed with a favorable court ruling, the government is preparing to restart its Do Not Call list to block telemarketing calls. Federal Trade Commission Chairman Timothy Muris says the registry will be ready to accept new phone numbers Thursday morning, beginning at 9AM central time.

Consumers will again be able to sign up, either via the web at www.donotcall.gov or by dialing the toll-free phone number 1-888-382-1222.

Muris says starting Saturday, the FTC will begin accepting complaints about new telemarketing calls from the first consumers who signed up. More than 52 million phone numbers are now on the list.
