Auburn Walmart arson suspect arrested

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – The Auburn Police Division arrested a 16-year-old LaFayette, Alabama, juvenile in connection to the fire at Wal-Mart.

He is charged with Arson 2nd Degree which is a Class B felony offense.  The juvenile was transported to the Lee County Youth Development Center where he is being held.

A second person, identified as a 19-year-old LaFayette man, is not expected to be charged.

Sunday, Auburn Police and Fire Divisions responded to the report of a fire at the Wal-Mart store in the 1700 block of South College Street.

A small fire was located inside the business and quickly extinguished however filled the building with heavy smoke causing the store to be evacuated and closed for several hours.  No injuries were reported.
