Family and friends gather to say final goodbye to young mother

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) –   The family of Yamisha Thomas says it is not fair the 30 year old lost her life so soon, but they are carrying on her spirit by remembering her laughter and love for her two daughters.

Hundreds of family and friends came to say good-bye to Yamisha Saturday afternoon.

Her family reported the 30 year old missing late in April. About a month later, investigators found her in what sources described as a shallow grave covered with cement in Phenix City.

She leaves behind two young daughters, one fifteen and the other celebrated her 7th birthday just days after investigators made the discovery.

Denise Dykes, Yamisha's older sister, says she was an amazing mother, sister, and friend.

"She had the type of personality that very few could not like.  You know everybody loved her, and it was hard not to.  She was a great friend, family, everything."

Denise says the family is trying to remain strong for Yamisha's daughters. She says they will use this hardship as a tool to strengthen the family.

Meantime  Thomas' ex-boyfriend Sylvester Davis is headed to prison.

Davis, who police are calling a person of interest, violated court orders by living with Yamisha in Phenix City.

The judge revoked Davis' probation Friday, sending him to prison for a year.

Part of his probation stated that he could not leave the state of Georgia; however officials found a lease agreement between the two in Phenix city, Alabama.

Davis' attorney said the home where he was staying in Phenix City was not a permanent location.

Denise says the family wants to thank their friends and the community for the support they have shown for the past month.

She says it is a true tribute to the love everyone had for Yamisha.
