COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) – A search for a possible drowning victim has been called off for the night after rescuers searched for almost 4 hours.
Investigators say the man was with three friends on an island in the middle of the Chattahoochee River.
Officials on scene say they received a call of a reported drowning and began a search of the river around 5 pm Sunday evening.
Witnesses say the 19 or 20 year old man was on rocks when he slipped and fell into the water.
This is the second possible drowning reported in this area of the Chattahoochee River in 2 days.
Saturday, 43 year old Steven Brookins was pronounced dead after he found in 10 feet of water off an island near Bibb City.
