Two former Blue Devils picked in day 2 of MLB Draft

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - Two former Columbus High Blue Devils were picked in the first five rounds of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday afternoon.

Catcher Jordan Weems was taken by the Boston Red Sox in the third round, the 111th player taken in the draft. Weems hit .443 this past season and helped take the Devils to their second straight GHSA AAA state title.

Lefthanded pitcher Matt Taylor was selected in the fifth round by the Baltimore Orioles. Taylor led Columbus to the state finals in 2009. He later played one season at Alabama, and pitched last season for Middle Georgia College.

The draft will continue on Tuesday until 30 rounds are completed, and wrap up on Wednesday with rounds 31 through 50.
