News Minute: Here is the latest Alabama news from The Associated Press

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Nearly 20 percent of Alabama is experiencing abnormally dry weather, but the state remains drought-free. The U.S. Drought Monitor says parts of central and southeastern Alabama are drier than normal. Alabama's driest areas are around the Interstate 20 corridor including Anniston, metro Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The chairman of the board of trustees at Alabama State University is stepping down. Elton Dean says he's resigning. Gov. Bentley, who is president of the ASU board, had called for Dean and vice chairman Marvin Wiggins to resign after an accrediting agency gave the university a warning. Wiggins says he's not resigning because he's done nothing wrong.

IRONDALE, Ala. (AP) - A religious broadcasting operation in suburban Birmingham is expanding to the West Coast. The EWTN Global Catholic Network says it's building a television production center on the campus of Christ Cathedral in Orange, California.

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - Dallas linebacker Rolando McClain has missed the start of training camp for a trial in Alabama today. He faces charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct in Decatur. The team hopes he returns to California tomorrow. McClain has been arrested three times in Decatur since 2011.
