PHENIX CITY, AL (WXTX) - Kizzie Evans is a youth director at Pine Hills Missionary Baptist Church. She had her hands full with tons of youth at the annual community fun day in Phenix City.

"They are having a blast we have the water slide where they can get wet , we have the batting cage, and basket ball," Evans said.

Each year it brings members from the church and hundreds in the community together to enjoy a day of festive events and food. The Alexander family couldn't imagine anything better to do on a Saturday.

"It's the best way to spend a Saturday I can imagine. I mean you get to be at church with Family our extended church family, food and fun you can't ask for better than that."

Jimmy Fryer, the Pastor at Pine Hills says that the event helps to promote unity in a troubled area and allow those who aren't active in church to participate in the fun.

"Community fun day is an opportunity for us as a church family to reach out to the community and bring the community together," Fryer said.

Members of the Russell County Sheriff's Office and Phenix City Police were on hand. Pastor Fryer says having the officers on hand builds a stronger relationship with people in the community.

"They are here for us and we are partners in trying to make our community a safe place for all to live"

Event organizer LaTiva Rivers says the event has proven to be a positive impact on the surrounding area. She's proud that the event has expanded over the years.

"There is a great feeling to know that we as citizens of Phenix City come together as one and have a good time, and next year it's going to be bigger and better," Rivers said.
