The meeting starts this evening at 5:00 p.m. at the Public Education Center on Macon Road.

It is customary for the school district to hold a public hearing on a proposed budget 2 weeks before final approval.  Recently, the city adopted new property tax rates that affect certain districts.  The school district benefits from a portion of property taxes.

The board's proposed millage rate for fiscal year 2012 is 23.37 mills. This is the same rate it has held since 1999 and it has not proposed an increase since 1991.

The school board will also discuss changing the 2011 - 2012 traditional and year-round school calendars to reflect five Work Scheduled Adjustment (WSA) Days .  Those are days in which personnel do not report to work.

Also Tuesday, Columbus Council will hold public hearings on its proposed 2012 budget.

News Leader 9 will be in attendance at both meetings.
