Officers test out new Columbus firing range

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A new firing range in Muscogee County will assist law enforcement officers in becoming sharp shooters.

The Muscogee County Training complex opened Wednesday on Manor Road just off Schatulga Road.

Officers can now train with moving targets – similar to real-life scenarios.

"its going to show the agencies the we are training at a top notch with the best equipment and we're using everything we can that we can better protect the public,." said Shannon Griffin Deputy, Marshal's Office.

The Muscogee County Sheriff's Department and the Marshal's Office came together to make this happen.

Sheriff John Darr and Marshal Greg Countrymen unloaded their weapons for some targets.

Mayor Teresa Tomlinson was also there. Funds for the $140,000 facility came from LOST or Local Option Sales Tax revenue and from a federal stimulus.
